Our Wilmington DJ Company’s Team & Vision
Wedding Djs in Wilmington NC, The Outer Banks & Carteret County
First and foremost, we’re passionate about people and we love what we do. At Coastal DJ & Video, we are privileged to help you create the memories that will last a lifetime. Our mission is to help you have the best time with your family and friends that you could ever imagine. This is especially true when it comes to weddings – a wedding is one of the most special days of someone’s life and when planning an event of such importance, you deserve the very best.
Over 30 years ago Coastal DJ & Video’s founder, George Wainwright, discovered a genuine love of entertaining which is shared by every single member of the team on staff today. We are proud to not only play songs but work with vendors, make necessary announcements, and do everything we can to create unforgettable events all across the North Carolina coast and beyond.
There’s much more to being a successful DJ than playing cool songs. Your party also needs a professional MC that can work closely with your planner, understand your taste and create the proper environment to help your guests let loose. Connecting with the crowd is so key to making the fun feel natural, which is why we’re experts at reading a room and navigating requests while keeping to your preferences at all times. We love the art and the craft of what we do.

Our Wedding & Event DJs
George Wainwright
I started DJing part-time back in 1989 the summer after graduating High School. I began working at a local night club running lights & sound with a close friend. Later this would lead to me learning how to spin records and Emcee contests.
In the early 90’s I continued my DJ career in the coastal towns of NC studying radio through a local station. I later landed a job in a big club in Raleigh, NC where I had the opportunity to work with tons of regional cover bands and several famous National Acts such as Motley Crue, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, The Smithereens, Clarence Carter, and many more…
During the late 90’s I moved to South Carolina to pursue a career in Real Estate and selling timeshare but found myself going back to what I loved the most which were DJing. In the early 2000’s I began picking up more and more jobs in the private industry such as birthdays, school dances, corporate parties, and finally weddings. I decided to form Coastal DJ & Video in early 2007.
Today the company employs over 10 DJs that work nearly every weekend rocking parties all up and down the East Coast from The Outer Banks to Wilmington, NC.
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my Mom and other family members doing fun things outside. We enjoy exploring new places and historic sites downtown. I also love creating music playlists and making mixes in my spare time.
I took a huge liking to music at a very early age. I grew up listening to disco, Motown, and 70’s classic rock from the music that my parents listened to. I got the itch to start DJing in the late ’80s from a local club DJ who was an excellent Emcee and had a very outgoing personality. I later became friends with another DJ that moved from Raleigh to the beach where he and I started working together at a local club.
I got into weddings after DJing in clubs and bars for years and having learned the music from playing in various settings which gave me the ability to play at weddings. I also learned how to speak on a microphone from the very beginning of my DJ career which allowed me to make the announcements needed at a wedding.
Most liked Genres: 70’s & 80’s Rock, 90’s Hip Hop, 2000’s Dance
Dance Floor Favorites: Michael Jackson, Usher, Montell Jordan, Earth, Wind & Fire
How I Train All DJs:
- I train my DJs now under the same elements and rule as I received when I started out as a DJ. Helping each new DJ learn the gear and how to operate each piece of equipment first.
- Working with each DJ to help them learn the different genres of music and what to play during each part of the event.
- Showing DJs how to effectively beat mix music to make each transition of songs seamless and impactful.
- Learning how to use and speak on a microphone properly.
- How to interact with clients before, during, and after each event.
- How to work with other vendors to ensure they love working with us and continue to refer to our company.
“George was very flexible and made our wedding reception that much more special! I would recommend Coastal DJ & Video to anyone! Thank you again!” – Anthony Bango

Years In The Business: 20
Adrian already had years of DJing experience before he approached us to join the Coastal family in 2011. He started spinning records back in 1992 and has since expanded his passion for music into other forms of media such as radio and television. His first love is being in front of an audience. He has a great speaking voice, outgoing personality, and knows how to engage his crowd to get everyone up and moving.
He has DJed all types of events from backyard family gatherings, to arena-sized events, and has opened for numerous national acts. His music knowledge is very diverse ranging from the ’70s & Motown to the latest in Top 40 and current dance. Adrian is extremely friendly and detail-oriented. When he’s DJing a wedding all his attention and focus are on the bride & groom. Making sure they are smiling and happy! He is super accommodating when it comes to customer service, so you can be sure that when he is DJing your special event things will run smoothly.

“Our DJ was Adrian and he did an awesome job of keeping the guests on the dance floor, played music flawlessly, was super flexible and even got on the dance floor to help lead the electric slide because we had people going in all directions!” – Tyesha
Matt Chambers
As a fan of all genres of music, I’ve always been in interested in DJing. It wasn’t until my second tour to Iraq in 2007-08 when I learned the ins and outs of DJing from a friend. I returned home and bought my first DJ controller in 2013 and practiced nightly on the basics.
I earned my first DJ residency as a College Bar DJ in Williamsburg in September 2014. I later expanded to bars in Richmond, Newport News, and Virginia Beach while DJing smaller private events. With the multiple demographics and engaging different crowds, I became well versed at reading a dancefloor being an open format DJ.
Within the next years, I taught myself new techniques and learned new formats such as karaoke, Video DJing, MCing, and Trivia Hosting.
In February 2018, I started focusing more on weddings, school events, and private parties. To this day, Matt has DJ’d everything from pool parties, school events, corporate parties, and over 40 weddings.
I absolutely love being a part of a couple’s special day and to provide the best party for their guests. I treat every wedding and event as a special occasion and go above and beyond to be professional and fun.

Cory Springer
I have been DJing since the early 90s. Learning from my Uncle Ralph who was a wedding DJ. I would do graduation parties and friends and family weddings. In 1999 I started working in clubs in the Norfolk area while still doing weddings and started traveling all over opening up new clubs in Dallas, Birmingham, Richmond, Charlotte, Baltimore, and Columbia S.C. As I got older the club thing got a little tired and I focused more on weddings. Since 2006 I have done weddings in the Bahamas and up and down the east coast. I try to take all the stress away from brides and grooms. I want them to have fun and just relax knowing that everything is going to be ok!
